Easter Break

I know that not all my fellow bloggers are Catholic but I have to share this new experience of mine.  I love teaching at a Catholic School this time of year.  My first 5 years of teaching in a public school I didn't know what I was missing.  This was my first Easter teaching at a Catholic School and I've really enjoyed it.  I know my faith has grown and become stronger since I started teaching religion to my students.  And my kids have done an AMAZING job learning about the Holy Days and I can honestly say that they understand (to a degree) that God and Jesus made a huge sacrifice for us.  Here is a picture of the palms we made for Jesus' arrival to Jerusalem and the Crosses that name and explain the Holy Days.

Now I also understand that the Easter Bunny is just as important to the kids so I've made sure to include a lot of bunny fun!!  We wrote Easter cards to our parents, made bunnies that could carry the watercolor eggs we made, and dyed Easter eggs!!!  We've also colored jelly beans according to a rhyming color code, added two digit numbers together on eggs and even wrote a story about helping the Easter Bunny hide eggs.  I'll post my jelly bean skip counting pages when I get home tonight.  We have conferences until 7:00 and then I'll be riding the train home for Easter!  Have a wonderful break....for those of you that get one!

Piggy word sort for ay and ai

I have to go to the dreaded dentist tomorrow so I wanted my students to have something fun to do while I'm gone.  Our spelling clue this week is ai and ay words.   The activity is an ai ay Piggy word sort that can also be used as an Easter activity .  Hope your kids enjoy it!

Please bear with me as I'm still trying to get the hang of posting documents.

Shopaholic!!!!

Like every teacher out there I'm a Target and Dollar Tree Shopaholic....or at least I tell my boyfriend that and he lovingly believes me.  So I just had to share some of my amazing buys:

My classroom theme is Safari so these "Reading rugs" are perfect for my room!  $2.50 each

And these bin....a hippo and an elepahnt!  I love that the mouths are netting and you can see into them.     These are not from the dollar section but worth the $9.99.

Of course I needed this cute bag (giraffes are my favorite) to carry all my school stuff because I don't have enough bags!  $1.00

These were an amazing steal for 16 eggs I only paid $1.99 at a dollar store near my house.  It's one of those odd dollar stores that isn't a real Dollar Store or Dollar Tree.

I put these "plain" eggs into a basket and set it on my red rocking chair in the front of my classroom.  My students came in and some noticed it but no one asked about it for about 20 minutes.  Someone finally asked (thank goodness because I was about to burst) and I pretended to not have a clue!  (So much fun!)  I asked who brought it in and of course no one could say yes.  Finally, one of my smarties said "Oh, maybe the Easter Bunny brought it!"  Well, lucky for me we had to leave for our field trip at that very moment!!

But I had one more trick up my sleeve....

Thanks to one of our office assistants, my basket full of eggs was magically changed!  The kids loved that the tricky Easter Bunny left us such beautiful eggs....and these had treats inside!  It was worth all the dollar store hunting!
